no, really, do you know how it all started? I'm just curious. We could tell you but then we would have to (cough) you.

Is Jesus Christ and Michael the ArchAngel one and the same person?
by booker-t ini must admit that as a jw i never really swallowed this belief maybe because i was so young when i was really a staunch jw.
i would have born-again christians tell me that it was impossible for jesus and michael to be the same person and that jw's invented this doctrine.
fast forward to 2004 while i was reading a book on jesus i noticed that some of the early church fathers thought michael was jesus christ i almost fell out of my chair.

Now these are the only two times that the bible mentions "archangel"
I would argue that because it is untrue. There is another section of the bible which says "...one of the archangels.." which implies one of many. I do not have an electronic version of the bible Blondie so it'll take some time for me to find that passage for you. My recollection is that it is a passage which has been altered by the WT to not reflect the plural nature but it is other versions.

Stupid JW Comments
by minimus inthe publications are filled with stupid comments.
elders and others have made some rather dumb statements too.
.....here's what one elder wanted to do to a brother that committed suicide.

Here is a recent dumb one:
"When any one of Jehovah's Witnesses is accused of an act of child abuse, the local congregation elders are expected to investigate. Two elders meet separately with the accused and the accuser to see what each says on the matter. If the accused denies the charge, the two elders may arrange for him and the victim to restate their position in each other's presence, with elders also there. If during that meeting the accused still denies the charges and there are no others who can substantiate them, the elders cannot take action within the congregation at that time." (Official Watchtower Society JW-Media.org Statement, May 2002)
I hadn't realized it but according to WT pedophiles do their dirty work with an audience. Ya learn something new everyday from those smart folks at WT.

Why would the bible say that Michael and "his" angels and not Michael and "the" angels if Michael had no authority over the angels?
Because Michael did have a measure of authority in that he is an archangel.
Jesus comes to reserrect to dead with an "archangel's" voice why not a cherub angel's voice or God's voice if Jesus was not an angel?
This does not prove that Jesus is Micahael as the bible (unadultered by the WT) refers to archangels. In other words it is pluralized which implies there are several archangels.
if Michael was a lesser prince would not the bible somehow distinguish the two in the OT?
By the same token, if Jesus and Micheal were the same then the bible certainly is large enough to mention this at least once. It does not because they are seperate and distinct.
Why does the WT go to great lengths to try and connect the 2 when there is no clear connection? Why do they use muddled examples to do this? I have wondered that myself.

There are sections of the bible which promote cruelty and violence. I know it is not true.

How imporatant a role should "The Past" play in our lives?
by formerout inthere are always opinions on whether/how much we should dwell on the past.
in my experience with my family, both before and after my exit from jwism, they have continuously told me that i should not dwell on the past.
i admit that i have always had what would seem to be "total recall".

I understand. There is dwelling and then there is obsessing. Dwelling for the purpose of reflection and self improvement can be a worthwhile excercise. Spending to much time dwelling to the point of fixation can be a very disfunctional excercise so I am with you on that.
Normally, I would think an event which occured at 17 years of age could be easily recalled but let's look at the circumstances:
You were participating in committing your Dad to an institution. This was probably a very stressful event for you. If this caused you to be sleep deprived (over the decision and process) then this would be a factor in memory. Add to this the fact that stress can cause the release of chemicals on your brain which also could hamper memory imprinting (while the event was occuring). These are significant factors that could have come into play during that time in your life. Sometimes these memories are recalled only after years and sometimes they are never recalled.
Either way, it seems logical that your father may have said any number of remarks like this in his condition. If he was ill then you did the right thing. It was stressful and you probably wouldn't want to repeat it but it also doesn't seem like a point worthy of over examination. If it continues to trouble you then perhaps some therapy would be in order?

The Day Jehovah's Witnesses in Riverside California Blinked
by Dogpatch inthe day jehovah's witnesses in riverside california blinked
on fairly short notice silentlambs sent out an advisory to the public that jehovah's witnesses were once again going to court to speak as character witnesses for a convicted pedophile.
earlier in the week on monday a large group of jehovah's witnesses had made known their intention to come to court as they had for the last two years to publicly support and offer character statements for a man convicted on several counts of molesting his daughters.

Great news Randy. They only like to play when the deck is stacked in their favour or when they outnumber. When the playing flield is made more equal they show their true selves: Gutless and cowardly.

Article on NH JW Abuse Case--Paul Berry
by blondie inin the jehovah's witness church, the elders were allowed to tell other church members because everyone in the church is considered an ordained minister.
but they were not allowed to tell authorities outside the church, the court records said.
i wonder if she misunderstood?.

In the Jehovah's Witness church, the elders were allowed to tell other church members because everyone in the church is considered an ordained minister. But they were not allowed to tell authorities outside the church, the court records said. They also told Poisson not to report it, according to the records.
No Blondie I don't think the reporter misunderstood. I listened to the Appeal Court hearing via an mp3 files which is offered by the N.H. State court (and the url was posted on another thread).
The lawyer for the JWs was attempting to present to the court that the children's mother's discussions with other JWs were in the form of a confessional and should therefor be exempt from reporting requirements. I do not think one of the Appeal Judges believed the lawyer that it was a confessional because she (the mother) told several people and it wasn't in a private confessional (Aside from that we all know this is ridiculous anyway because virtually everything disclosed to an elder is added to a file at WT Brooklyn - which is why they have 25,000 reports of child molestation in the files at HQ Brookllyn. In otherwords it is not confidential as the information is shared with HQ. I only hope the judges fully appreciate that.).
I believe that In order to stretch the law to cover anyone that the children's mother may have told in the KH, the lawyer may have tried to present that all JWs are ordained ministers and therefor all should be exempt from reporting requirements. This would account for the above quote from the reporter Blondie. I can't say for certain if this was the case because I listened to it 3 weeks ago and it would have been a brief point. Either way, how is that for a load of horse shit but it is also very typical behaviour that I have seen from WT lawyers to make up whatever lie to win in court without conscience, without remorse, without morality and without flinching.

I have one or two VERY traumatic incidents from my past that I have never been able to bring back to memory despite my family reminding me of them
I would be curious as to how old you were when these events happened. I do subsubscribe to the theory that when events occur which are beyond the capability of understanding, the human mind can store these memories in a way which can be difficult to recollect later in life.
You may feel it necessary to recall events in order to do some self healing but there are limitations to this. Some events that occur in the pre-cognitive years may be unrecoverable. Want as you may to remember, it may be impossible.
